Friends for life
If you've been following me for a while, then you know my husband and I fostered a yellow lab mix named Treasure for several years. If you're not familiar with this story, click HERE and learn more about this special dog who stole our hearts. Treasure was adopted 4 years ago and is doing really well in her new home. We miss her dearly and think of her often, but know that she is living the life she so deserves. A couple of years ago, we all got together for a reunion. It was a beautiful summer day and we decided to take the girls, Izzy and Tre (as she is now called), to spring creek park for a playdate in the water. They had a blast playing together and we enjoyed catching up with each other's lives.
A couple of months ago, Izzy and Tre exchanged emails and promised to make plans to get together again soon. This is the part of fostering that really is rewarding...staying in touch and hearing how awesome her life has turned out. Read on to find out how the girls keep their friendship alive in spite of the long distance and take a look back at our day in the creek 2 years ago.
Hey Tre!
It’s hard to believe you found your forever home 4 years ago now! Where did the time go? It’s been a while since we got together, but we think about you all the time. How have you been? How is life treating you?
The big news here is that there are now 4 of us dogs in the house. I haven’t let Steve and Trina in on the secret yet, but sometimes we get tired of them saying no to a walk (who cares if it’s raining!), we may stage a coup and tell them what the rules of the house are going to be. After all, we outnumber them by 12 paws!!!
You’d probably like Alex, the King Charles Cavalier. He’s an older guy, but very sweet and laid back. His mom had to move out of her home, so he stays with us, but visits her during the day. He comes home at night tired, but happy.
We also have another dog, Tillie. She moved in with us a couple of months ago. I’m not sure you would like her. She’s an Australian-Shepherd mix and talks a lot. My mom and Tillie’s mom have been friends for a few years. I like them both, especially Tillie’s mom because she always made a big fuss over me and gave me treats! But she passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly, so Tillie came to live with us. It was a rocky start at first, but now we all get along really well!
Every summer Mom likes to tell me the story of how I learned to like playing with the water from the hose because of you. I was so afraid of that snake-ish thing, but you never were. You would chase the water all over the yard and run up and drink from it. After you left, I decided to give it a try and now I love it too! So much that whenever mom waters the flowers I bark at her to get her to water me too! She loves to tell everyone that she waters her own dog! Maybe it’s just something I do to remind me of you. But I’m glad you taught me that water is fun and I shouldn’t be afraid of it.
I hope all is well with you Tre! I miss you, we all miss you, and would love to hear how you and your family is doing!
Izzy

Hey girl!
It's so good to hear from you! Sounds like you have your paws full with family life. Four dogs - wow! That means you have the majority...that means you guys are in charge...that means you're in control...wait, that just means you're a dog, right! 😊. News flash to all the humans out there - dogs rule!
Things are going great here. I can't believe that it's been four years either. It just feels like home to me and I'm where I'm supposed to be. I do miss you and Trina and Steve. I had lots of great friends at PAWS too and I enjoyed seeing everyone the other summer. I hope we can do it again! My Mom doesn't let me forget you guys, in fact, every April she pulls out my "book" and we sit together and she reads it to me and we look at the pictures. Sometimes she gets emotional when she thinks about when she found me and how we first met and all that stuff. She hugs me and kisses me a lot...I pretend that it bothers me after awhile but secretly I really like it. 😬
It's been great having my Mom around all the time now that she's retired. We go for runs and walks and stuff every day. I love being home but I love going to the lake because I can run free! I like to lay on the couch and dream of all the fun things I'm going to do that day, which looks a lot like I'm sleeping. Don't let the closed eyes fool you - I'm working hard!! Hey, it's a dogs life and I'm really good at it!
Hopefully we'll be able to set up another play day this summer. Have your people call my people...
Love,
Peanut/Tre/Treasure
