The 16 year old who made it all happen

It’s all Charlie’s fault. After all he is now 16. Time is flying. And his family needed to make it stop. Just for a moment. Well, maybe a little longer. And that’s just what they did.

Charlie’s mom reached out to me with an request to do a photo session with the entire family. So much had happened in the last few years in her life. Covid. A wedding. A new family member. It had been her intention for a long time to get photos. But time, a friend or enemy depending on how you see it, was slipping by. Much too quickly.

Sixteen. Such a sweet number. For dogs, it’s more than that. In some breeds, that would be outliving a life expectancy. In other breeds that is the end range for a full life. Rarely do you see dogs living beyond 16. And that’s what Charlie’s parents were facing. So time was of the essence. It was now or never.

And so we made it happen. For Charlie. For Issac. For Miss Cakes. And for mom and dad.

We met at Robinson Preserve in Bradenton. This has easily become one of my favorite parks in Sarasota County. Especially in the fall. It’s where the family has spent a lot of time running, hiking and exploring with their furry family. So it was the perfect location. And the weather - couldn’t have been any better.

My favorite time of the day to photograph is right before sunset when you get that golden light. Photographers call it “golden hour” for a reason!

Even though Florida is warm pretty much all year round, we don’t get the pops of color from foliage like the states up north do. So the changes in seasons are much more subtle. Right around the end of summer and early fall is when you’ll see more variety in the vegetation.

And this is what we found at the park. Enough variety to create a wide range of backdrops to photograph against. And as the sun went down, we got a little pink in the sky. The perfect nod to the purple hair and burgundy clothing the pups parents were wearing. I love it when everything comes together, don’t you?

I loved working with this family and feeling the love they have for their furry family. It was a joy getting to know all of them and creating a photo album they will cherish long past Charlie’s 16 years.
